How to Find a Top Notch Online Intelligence Program at an Online Military College

There are individuals who get a thrill out of knowing something first. These people enjoy getting that first tidbit of information before anyone else does. People like this often find themselves following a path that leads to a successful intelligence career. A few of these professionals feel a sense of honor in knowing that the information they find is helping to protect their fellow soldiers on the frontlines. If this describes you, you are probably either considering a career in military intelligence or are already pursuing one.

Regardless of what stage you are at in pursuing and achieving your goals, an online intelligence program can be the catalyst for a long and successful career in a variety of fields. For example, if you are a servicemember looking to request a reclassification, get promoted to a noncommissioned officer rank, or become a commissioned officer, earning a degree from an online intelligence program may give you the education you need.

However, before enrolling in an online intelligence program, you should make sure that it is conducted at an online military college. The term “online military college” does not connote that the college is run by the military; rather, it is a college that is known to have policies that make it particularly suited for the military student. These colleges are often called “military friendly universities”.
What to look for in an online military college

As you search for a prestigious online intelligence program, keep this list in mind to ensure that you limit your options to colleges that are military friendly.

- The college offers college credit for military training.
- The college has been listed as a “military-friendly school’ by military-related publications or web sites.
- The college is reasonable regarding leave of absences by service members.
- The college is part of the Yellow Ribbon Program for the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill.
- The college is accredited as well as a member of military education organizations, such as the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium or the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME).
- The college has trained advisors that are knowledgeable about the ins and outs of military education benefits, including the difference between the Montgomery G.I. Bill and the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill and using tuition assistance.
- The college gives discounts or scholarships to military members.

An online military college will have most if not all of these benefits for its military students.

What to look for in an online intelligence program

Now that you know what to look for in an online military college, you need to narrow down your online intelligence program options. There are certain topics that you want to make sure are integrated into the curriculum, especially if you want to go into military intelligence. The reason for this is that not all intelligence degrees will cover military-specific intelligence instruction.

A good, well rounded education can prove very helpful for a career in military intelligence. While many universities offer courses in intelligence through an online intelligence program, only the organization that you eventually work for can properly instruct you on how to do the job. However, some skills you should learn in an online intelligence program include being able to present the information that you have collected within a military context and to a military audience. Providing relevant and timely intelligence in a well-organized manner will not only lead to a successful intelligence career, but will also save lives in the field.
