What kind of holster can I carry?
I live in Texas and I have recently obtained my concealed carry license, and I was wondering if I have to have an in-the-waistband holster or if I can wear a regular belt holster. Anyone have any idea?
If you can recommend a holster I would appreciate it.
There are no legal requirements dictating what type of holster you need to wear. It just needs to conceal the gun.
Finding a holster that suits your needs for concealed carry is the toughest thing. Finding a pistol to carry is easy, if you stick with a major brand, Glock, Sig, Ruger, Taurus etc, they do have to be expensive.
But finding a holster is extremely difficult. A lot depends on your body shape, sex, gun type and personal preferences.
I mainly carry a baby Glock; a 26 9mm. It works well with an in the pants with a snap off belt clip. I also like wearing a plain plastic scabbard.
When I carry the full sized Glock 17, I like a Don Hume Scabbard or the plastic scabbard.
Go to a gun show of find a store that is both wiling to let you experiment and has a knowledgeable sales staff.
You might try a local gun range or club. Those guys always want to talk guns and would love to help you.
My only concrete suggestion is stay away from ankle holsters, they are hard to bend down to get if you are injured and they make you walk funny, giving you away.
My gun closet is full of holster mistakes, do not be embarrassed if you get one that is not right for you. It is a trial and error experience.
